Diesel fuel is expensive. There is no getting around that. It really hurts the wallet to fill up the truck, especially for those that have huge fuel tanks. Whether you use your diesel truck to pull toys or a trailer for work, you still have to fill that tank. The higher prices go, the worse it gets and the less you can afford to drive. If you can’t drive your truck, why have it? And for some, if they can’t afford to drive their truck, they go out of business.
Some say that all you need to do is inflate your tires, get a new air filter, change your oil and you’re all set. That might help for those that don’t take care of their vehicle in the first place, but what about the rest of us? There are many aftermarket upgrades out there that claim to increase fuel mileage. Some work, some don’t. In the end, every diesel has a computer that tells the vehicle to pump a specific amount of fuel into the engine when the pedal is pressed. Many variables contribute to how much fuel is pumped, and unless those variables are changed, the same amount of fuel will continue to be pumped into the engine.
A diesel performance chip is an upgrade that can adjust some of those variables so that the engine can run at it’s optimal efficiency. Diesel chips adjust:
* Air/fuel ratios
* Fuel injector flow rates
* Shifting points
* Spark timing
These adjustments can do a variety of things. Some settings will increase horsepower and torque, some will increase fuel efficiency, and some will do both at the same time.
A lot of aftermarket parts claim to increase fuel mileage, but only one actually does something to adjust the amount of fuel that is pumped into the engine. So if you are trying to get the most out of every drop, then you should highly consider purchasing a diesel performance chip for your truck.
